Dr. Shahid Aziz is one of only 6 American trained OMS to be inducted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, and one of only two OMS who are members of the Society of University Surgeons. He completed his general surgery and oral/maxillofacial surgery training at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center. He has authored or co-authored over 50 peer reviewed journal articles and 22 book chapters. Shahid’s clinical area of expertise includes facial trauma and reconstruction and orthognathic surgery.
Shahid Aziz is the co-founder and President of the NJ based non-profit Smile Bangladesh. A 1st generation Bangladeshi-American, Shahid has been leading a small team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses to Bangladesh since 2006. To date, he has led 24 surgical missions to Bangladesh and provided free surgery to about 1600 children and adults with cleft lip and palate deformities. In 2006 Dr Aziz received the prestigious Faculty Educator Award from the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS). Dr Aziz is also the 2017 recipient of AAOMS Humanitarian Award for his charitable work in Bangladesh and in global surgery.
Pooja Gangwani

Dr. Pooja Gangwani is an Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry/Eastman Institute of Oral Health. She is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Gangwani practices full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Her expertise includes performing wisdom teeth extraction, bone grafting procedures, dental implant reconstruction, corrective jaw surgery and reconstructive surgery after facial trauma. She also specializes in management of TMJ disorders and benign pathology. Dr. Gangwani spends a great deal of time educating her patients and providing treatment options. She is passionate about delivering personalized patient care and is involved in all aspect of her patient’s care both before and after surgery.
Dr. Gangwani also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health Epidemiology from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. She has a particular interest in clinical research and has served as an author of book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals. She is also a peer-reviewer and on editorial board of several journals. She enjoys educating residents and finds it extremely rewarding.
